My Background

I'm a professional artist living and working in Reno, NV. I was classically trained in the Atelier tradition at the Bougie studio in Minneapolis as well as the H&P studio in St. Paul MN studying 16th-17th century Dutch/Flemish oil painting technique. I also studied portraiture with Tony Ryder in Santa Fe, NM. I've taught through the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Fine Arts and through my personal studio. I was self employed as an artist for over 15 years, until 2011 when I went to work for VGT as a Lead artist. I've shown in many solo and group shows including La Luz de Jesus in LA, the Nevada Museum of Art, and Sierra Arts. My work has been widely published and collected.

My Medium

I am comfortable in many mediums both digital and physical. I love painting and traditional oil painting technique. I'm also very familiar with other media like Airbrush for illustration & automotive customization, watercolor, charcoal, acrylic, gouache. I'm also well versed in digital media and technique, including:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • After Effects
  • ZBrush
  • Maya
  • Procreate
  • Particle Illusion

& many others

My Inspiration

I have many inspirations, from people and places to the vast amount of quality work that's being put online by so many talented artists. I love plein air painting up in the Sierra or the foothills around Virginia City. So amazing to combine painting and a beautiful location to really immerse yourself in. Although I find it quite difficult! I'm also very inspired by the work of the Old Masters and the painters of the Academies of Europe. The quality of the work is a testament to the abilities of human beings and their potential. One last major inspiration comes from the digital mediums and the groundbreaking technology creating so much quality content.  It's all very exciting.
